Repeat drug suspect granted bail after drug bust in Bagotville

A man described by authorities as a repeat drug offender was on Friday granted bail after appearing before the Wales Magistrate’s Court on narcotics trafficking charges.

Prince Bagot appeared before Magistrate Weaver, where he was charged with possession of 390 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Despite objections from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), bail was granted in the sum of $500,000. The matter has been adjourned to May 25, 2026.

The charge stems from an intelligence-led operation conducted by CANU officers on Thursday at Lot 108, David Rose Street, Bagotville, West Bank Demerara. During the exercise, officers intercepted Bagot at his business premises and carried out a search of both the shop and his residence.

The search led to the discovery of 390 grams of cannabis, 3.5 grams of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy), and twenty-five 7.65 mm live rounds of ammunition. Officers also seized $608,450 in cash, which is suspected to be proceeds from narcotics trafficking.

Bagot was arrested along with another individual, Maurice Fernandes, and both were taken to CANU Headquarters as investigations continued.

Authorities noted that Bagot has a history of drug-related offences and is well known to law enforcement. He was previously arrested at the same location on January 22, 2026, when CANU ranks reportedly found him in possession of 912 grams of cannabis, 11 grams of ecstasy, and a large sum of cash.

In that matter, he had been granted $150,000 bail with conditions requiring him to report to CANU on a monthly basis. However, investigators say the current offence was allegedly committed while that case remains before the court.

CANU has since reiterated its concerns regarding repeat offenders and ongoing drug trafficking activities within communities.
