Jaswant Murilal, a 27-year-old Guyanese man of East Indian descent from Lot 21 First Street, Martyrsville, Mon Repos, appeared on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, before the Diamond Magistrate’s Court presided over by Magistrate Mr. Bess.

Murilal was charged with dangerous driving.

He pleaded guilty and was fined G$50,000 or, in default, 12 months’ imprisonment.

The charge followed public outrage after a viral video showed Murilal driving at high speed along the Ogle/Eccles Highway.

He subsequently lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median, and ended up in the lane of oncoming traffic, barely avoiding collision with other vehicles.
