Human Rights Day Observed at EU Residence

December 9 2025
The Ambassador of the European Union to Guyana, Luca Pierantoni, hosted a reception at the EU Residence in Bel Air Springs, Georgetown, last evening, in observance of International Human Rights Day and the global 16 Days of Activism campaign.

The gathering also offered an opportunity for attendees to exchange Christmas greetings and reflect on human rights achievements throughout 2025.
Ambassador Pierantoni expressed his pleasure in hosting the observance and commended the courage and resilience of differently abled individuals.

He also used the occasion to announce the upcoming EU–Guyana Business Mission, which will be undertaken with strong support from the private sector.
The initiative aims to deepen economic collaboration and strengthen partnerships between the European Union and Guyana.
During the event, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, delivered brief remarks highlighting the extensive work undertaken by her Ministry to uphold and protect the rights of women, men, and vulnerable groups across Guyana.
She pointed to strengthened legislation, progressive policy reforms, and wide-reaching training initiatives aimed at empowering citizens, expanding access to justice, and supporting both personal and economic advancement.

Minister Persaud also reaffirmed the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to providing continued support for persons with disabilities, noting that inclusion remains a priority within the national human rights agenda.
