The Ministry of Home Affairs, in partnership with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and the Guyana Police Force, has intensified its anti-trafficking efforts with a series of targeted training and sensitization sessions across Region One.
According to a statement from the ministry, the outreach, conducted from November 27–29, 2025, covered Port Kaituma, Arakaka, Eyelash and several surrounding communities.

More than 1,000 residents and stakeholders reportedly benefitted from the engagement. Participants included health workers, hotel operators, community policing groups, public officials, migrants, vendors, bar and restaurant operators, miners, Transport and Harbours Department representatives, boat operators, taxi drivers and small business owners.

The sessions focused on key areas such as:
-
Identifying indicators and forms of human trafficking
-
Understanding the dangers and impact of Trafficking in Persons
-
National reporting channels
-
Community-led prevention approaches
-
Support services available to victims and survivors
To reinforce the awareness message, attendees also received posters, flyers and branded educational materials.

During the outreach, representatives from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security also engaged several vulnerable families under the “Building the Bridge and Bridging the Gap” socio-economic programme, aimed at improving household stability and reducing exposure to exploitation.
Community members are urged to report suspected cases of human trafficking via the Ministry’s 24-hour hotlines:
• English: 227-4083 / 623-2030
• Spanish: 624-0079
The Ministry of Home Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, combating transnational organized crime and strengthening national anti-trafficking initiatives through collaboration, public awareness and sustained community engagement.
