CANU Destroys Seized Narcotics

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) this morning carried out the official destruction of a quantity of narcotics seized during recent operations, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to the fight against drug trafficking and abuse across Guyana.
The destroyed narcotics included 926.56 kilograms of seized drugs: 618.26 kilograms of cocaine, 308.30 kilograms of cannabis, and smaller quantities of methamphetamine and ecstasy which carries an estimated international value exceeding $4 billion.

The exercise, which commenced around 07:00 hrs, took place at a vacant lot along Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, and was witnessed by members of the media and other invited stakeholders.

According to CANU, the destruction exercise formed part of its standard procedure following the conclusion of investigations and court matters related to the confiscated drugs.
The Unit emphasized that such exercises serve to maintain transparency and accountability in the disposal of illegal substances.
