Police are probing the discovery of a man’s body at the Supenaam Creek, Essequibo Coast, on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as 69-year-old pensioner, Abdil Ramjan Khan, of Wakenaam Island.

According to police, around 07:10 hrs, the Aurora Police Station received a call reporting that a body was floating near the Supenaam waterfront, in the vicinity of the Farmers’ Wharf. Detectives and a senior rank visited the scene, where Khan’s body was recovered. Blood was observed oozing from his ear, but no visible marks of violence were detected.

Khan was later identified by his son-in-law, 34-year-old minibus driver Navindra Thomas. He told investigators that on Sunday, September 7, Khan had left Wakenaam alone in his wooden boat, powered by a 40 HP outboard engine, to purchase engine parts at Supenaam.

When he did not return, Thomas went searching and found Khan’s boat moored at the waterfront, with his clothes left on the ground near the stelling. A missing person’s report was then filed.

Khan’s body was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Beharry. His remains are at the hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigators also reviewed CCTV footage from a nearby property, which captured Khan falling into the water. The investigation remains ongoing.
