Police are seeking murder charges against three men for the death of Christopher Stephens, whose body was found in the Puruni River on Monday, August 18.

This development came after a post mortem, performed on Friday, August 22, revealed that Stephens had died from blunt trauma to the head, compounded by asphyxiation.

The suspects are also miners who work in the area where the killing occurred.

Charges are likely soon.

The breakthrough came after detectives contacted an eyewitnes who claimed to have seen one of the suspects chop Stephens, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, with a cutlass.
