The Guyana Police Force Academy received international Certification for its three campuses at Essequibo, Berbice, and Georgetown on Tuesday, May 04, 2024, in Arizona, United States of America. Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Calvin Brutus received the certificates on behalf of the GPF.

After completing all requirements and criteria, the campuses received the certifications through the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training.

Deputy Commissioner Brutus was accompanied to Arizona by Assistant Superintendent Gladwin Hanover, Woman Superintendent Sonia Hubert, and Woman Superintendent Nicola Kendall.

In 2023, the Guyana Police Force Academy received National Accreditation Status, making the entity the first public one to be accredited. After that, the organization has been working aggressively to attain its international accreditation status.

In both instances, the organization had to ensure certain key aspects and elements of its operations were in keeping with international best practices.

Dietary, lecturers, sanitary facilities, curriculum, classroom setting, environment, and even meals were among the basic but key elements that formed part and parcel of the inspection and vetting process to be considered for the academy and accreditation certification status.

The Guyana Police Force will enjoy the current status quo of international certification until May 29, 2027, following which, the organization will again be up for inspection to determine if it will retain its international Accreditation Status.

Over the last year and a half, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken and Deputy Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus have been working around the clock along with the support of other officers and ranks to bring the Guyana Police Force to the Academy Status and International Certifications which the organization has successfully achieved and now enjoys.
