One dead as fuel tanker topples at Aurora, Reg.7

A man was on Monday afternoon pinned to death after the truck he was driving on the Buckhall trail, toppled at Aurora Tapir Road Region 7. Dead is 32-year-old Tyrone Anthony, a contractor with Aurora Gold Mines.

Reports coming out of Region 7 suggest that the accident occurred at approximately 17:30 hours Monday while Anthony of 126 Supenaam, Essequibo Coast was driving the fuel tanker GAD 3757 which is attached to Demerara Transportation Limited.

The tanker was transporting Fuel from Buckhall to Aurora when it began uncontrollably descending a slope as Anthony was negotiating a turn.

Anthony then completely lost control of the vehicle which ran off the road and turned over, causing him to be flung from the vehicle which partly pinned his body. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Tyrone was eventually picked up from the scene in an unconscious state and rushed to the Aurora Medical Centre where he was examined by a medical officer who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The Guyana Police Force is continuing their investigation into the matter.
