 -suspect confesses to crime

Police have apprehended the suspect in the Robbery/Murder of 59-year-old businessman Akbhar Sain at Williamsburg, Corentyne Berbice, early this morning.

The robbery/murder of the Berbice businessman occurred at his (Williamsburg) home where he operates a supermarket on the lower flat.

At about 02:30 hrs this morning, Region Six Commander Shiverpersaud Bacchus and a team of Police officers and ranks acted on information filtered from the Police Operations Room to the Berbice Anti-Crime Patrol to respond to a report of alleged Break-and-Enter-and-Larceny at a supermarket at Williamsburg.

Upon arrival at the scene, police ranks observed the grill to the southern side of the businessman’s home was prised open. The businessman, who lived alone, was seen lying motionless on the supermarket floor with blood on his face. The cashier area was ransacked.

The businessman’s licensed firearm (.32 pistol and a magazine with eight .32 rounds of ammunition) was seen close to the his body.

At about 05:00 hrs this morning, Police ranks canvassed the area twice, and a male who has been identified as Satesh Ramnerish, was seen hiding behind a washing machine in the back verandah in the upper flat of the businessman’s two-storey house.

After a chase, the suspect received a shot in the right arm. A search was conducted on his person, and a quantity of Guyana Currency was found stashed in his crotch.

He was then questioned and confessed to breaking into the residence, after which he had a scuffle with the victim, during which he hit Sain with a piece of wood to his head, causing him to collapse to the ground.

Ramnerish said he then proceeded into the residence and stole the cash the Police found on his person.

The suspect was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was treated for his wounds.

Investigations are ongoing.
