Police have detained a 28-year-old woman for the death of one year-old Raheem Fung of Circuitvile, Soesdyke/Linden.

The child died on Monday, September 18, three days after being admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Intensive Care Unit with multiple head injuries and being on life support.

Police said that the babysitter is the niece of the child’s father and lives at Yarrowkabra, on the Soesdyke/Linden highway.

The suspect has a one-year-old daughter.

Police said that in July, the couple left Raheem with the 28-year-old, who would take care of their child from Monday to Saturday.

Sometime last August, the babysitter contacted the child’s father and said that Raheem had fallen and hit his head. The child, whose forehead was swollen, was treated at the GPHC. He was allegedly sent away “in a healthy condition” and returned into the care of the 28-year-old babysitter.

On September 15 at about 19.30 hrs, the babysitter contacted Raheem’s mother and said that Raheem had suffered a seizure and lost consciousness.

The child, who had multiple head injuries, was examined at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, then admitted to the GPHC’s ICU. He was placed on a life support machine and passed away on Monday.
