A 20-year prison sentence has been imposed on Durn Hunt, 38, who had pleaded guilty to a murder charge over the death of his reputed wife.

The Crane Street, Queenstown, Corriverton, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) resident, who has been suffering from a substance-induced psychotic disorder, had pleaded guilty to the charge in May during his arraignment at the Berbice High Court.

Itashia Frank

On October 15, 2018, he murdered Itashia Frank, his 38-year-old reputed wife. Hunt was sent to jail for the crime on Wednesday by Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall.

The convicted killer was represented by Attorney Surihya Sabsook while State Counsel Muntaz Ali presented the case for the prosecution.

On the day in question, the couple had an argument during which Hunt pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman several times in the neck.

Frank managed to run away from her attacker but he caught up with her at a nearby street where he threw her into a drain and continued stabbing her.

He then pushed her head under the water until she became motionless. Hunt and Frank had only been together for three weeks prior to her gruesome demise.
