The owner of the popular Blue Iguana Night Club in Alberttown, Georgetown, was on Monday, remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to a cocaine trafficking charge.

Royston Peniston, 44, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where he denied the charge which alleged that on March 3, 2023, at Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had 2.178 kilograms (approximately five pounds) of cocaine worth $2.1M, in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Peniston was remanded to prison until April 3.

According to a statement from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), on the day in question, its ranks intercepted Peniston at Festival City with two suitcases containing parcels of cocaine.

A subsequent search of the suitcases in the man’s presence revealed a quantity of whitish powdery substance, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Following the search, the businessman and the narcotic were escorted to CANU’s Headquarters.
