Husband, accomplice plead not guilty to murdering Babita Sarjou

Shradhanand Narine called “Anand” and Daral Ponton aka “Yankee” will go on trial from 13:15h on Monday for the murder of the former’s estranged wife, Babita Sarjou whose skeletal remains were unearthed in May 2016 in a shallow grave.
Narine and his co-accused were arraigned before Demerara High Court Judge Simone Morris-Ramlall on Monday for the capital offence of murder. They both denied the joint charge which alleged that they murdered Sarjou between November 4 and 5, 2010.
The two murder accused are represented by lawyers Nigel Hughes, Siand Dhurjon, Shawn Shewram and others. State Counsel Muntaz Ali is one of the prosecutors.
On the eve of Diwali, November 4, 2010, Sarjou, 28, had left her Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home to view the annual motorcade with her estranged husband and son.
When she did not return home, Narine was questioned as the two were known to be experiencing problems in their marriage as several domestic violence reports were lodged at the Police station.
Sarjou’s disappearance was solved in May 2016 after her skeletal remains were found in her estranged husband’s yard at Campbellville, Georgetown.
