‘Aids Man’, accomplice remanded for Kaneville businessman’s murder

Two men have been charged in connection with the robbery/murder of Kanveville, East Bank Demerara (EBD) businessman, 41-year-old Shimron Adams, who was gunned down in front of his business place on Boxing Day 2022.

Andrew Ridley called “Aids Man” and his accomplice Akelow Marshall were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday for the capital offence of murder.

They were not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on December 26, 2022, they murdered Adams.

The pair were remanded to prison until February 2.

They were arrested after Adams’ 29-year-old girlfriend identified them as the gunmen. The woman, who was detained shortly after the robbery, also told Police that she was in a relationship with Ridley.

She told police that Ridley robbed and killed the businessman after learning that she and Adams were having an affair. She alleged that on December 22, Ridley saw several text messages, as well as photographs of her and Adams and told her that he would rob Adams.

She claimed that despite her pleas, the lover insisted he would rob Adams, and kept her phone. She alleged that she was at Adams’ D’urban Street, Georgetown business establishment on the day in question, when Ridley and Marshall, both armed with handguns, relieved Adams of a gold band and gold finger ring.

Ridley then shot Adams while trying to relieve him of a bag.

Ridley and Marshall have reportedly confessed to killing Adams.

The confession came as ballistic tests confirmed that the Taurus pistol found at Ridley’s home is the same firearm used to kill Adams.

Marshall was arrested by the Police at Springlands, Corentyne while heading to neighbouring Suriname. Ridley is also a suspect in the November 11, 2022, murder of Laing Avenue, Georgetown resident Dexter McFarlene, 53, who was killed by a stray bullet while heading home.

Ridley, who is a “known character” to the Police, was previously charged with a series of offences including robbery under arms and break and enter and larceny.
