Firefighter save Vreed-en-Hoop building from destruction

The Fire Service on Tuesday morning prevented a home and business place from complete destruction at Lot 3B New Road Vreed En Hoop, West Coast Demerara. However while the home was saved, structural and water damage was evident at the location.

Just around 09:00hrs, smoke was observed coming from the upper flat of the building which is used by the family as their residence while the office of CEC Inc. is located in the lower flat.

Bidding and other essential documents which are used by the family as part of their business were damaged as a result of the firefighting exercise.

When BIG Smith News Watch arrived at the location, firefighters were conducting the mopping-up exercise while occupants of the home were moving other important items to safety and providing fire prevention officers with needed information.

This publication was told that prior to the fire, there was a power outage in the area and that it was shortly after the power was restored that smoke was seen coming from the upper flat of the building.

The property is said to be owned by 67-year-old Harry Deodhary.
