An accident Saturday morning on the Perseverance Public Road, West Coast Berbice has claimed the life of former City Engineer at City Hall, Gregory Erskine.

At approximately 07:15hrs Saturday, Motorcar PZZ 9132 and Motor Lorry GSS 818 with Trailer TXX 5072 attached collided with each other.

PZZ was at the time being driven by 22-Year-Old Saramonie Ghansham of Good Faith Mahaicony while GSS 818 was driven by 46-Year-Old Lorris Greenville Barnes.

At the time, Police Inspector 46-Year- Old Marx Wilson, 42-Year-Old Okechukwu Godfrey and 45-Year-Old Gregory Erskine were occupants of GSS 818.

It was reported that PZZ 9132 was proceeding west along the road at a fast rate if speed  when the 22-Year old driver lost control of the vehicle she was driving and collided to a median.

The impact caused the car to end up on the other side of the road where it got into the path of the lorry which was heading in the opposite direction.

As a consequence, the trailer driver lost control and collided with two GPL utility poles and a fence.

The driver and three occupants including Erskine all received injuries and were taken for medical attention after being assisted out of the damaged vehicles by public spirited citizens.

After being examined initially at the Mahaicony Hospital Barnes and Godfrey were treated and sent away while Wilson and Erskine were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Erskine according to medical sources arrived suffering from a fractured arm and leg while Wilson suffered a fractured arm. Both were admitted patients in the Male Surgical Ward.

The driver of the car who was admitted to the Mahaicony Hospital took self discharge and and checked herself in at the Woodlands Hospital where she was admitted and treated for a fractured rib.

Over at the Georgetown Public Hospital Gregory Erskine succumbed to his injuries at about 14:00 while still seeking medical attention.

Back in 2009, Erskine was appointed Chief City Engineer at City Hall. He was however fired along with three other City Hall officials back in 2013 following an audit.
