President calls high-level ‘out of city’ meeting with ministers

President Irfaan Ali today called a meeting with his Ministers of Government, Permanent Secretaries and other key functionaries within the arm of Central Government.

Several ministers who had pre-scheduled public engagements and meeting today did not show up for those.

The high-level meeting is being held on the outskirts of Georgetown where the discussions are said to be intense.

Since the PPP returned to office in 2020, it has been pushing an aggressive infrastructure agenda while the housing, agriculture, tourism and oil and gas sectors have been buzzing with activities.

While campaigning in the lead up to the 2020 polls, the PPP admitted that it did some things wrong during the previous rule and promised that once re-elected, among the key commitment will be to keep its elected officials in check.

Meetings such as the one being held today are usually done as a means to examine performances, review existing policies and make changes where necessary.

Today’s exercise of the Ali Government comes at a time when several agencies are having their internal budget meetings to push their proposals to Cabinet and the Ministry of Finance, the capital projects and works which they wish to have financed in the 2023 National Budget.
