The Ministry of Natural Resources as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility coordinated the construction of a new home for an elderly couple residing in No. 64 Village, Corentyne which collapsed recently.

The house collapsed on August 26, 2022 as the couple was asleep in the wooden structure. They were trapped under the rubble and were rescued by neighbours.  According to news reports, Parbattie Boodhoo called “Sisto” and her bedridden husband Natool Madray were afforded refuge at a neighbour’s house.

This effort was led by Natural Resources Minister, Vickram Bharrat with support from stakeholders within the natural resources sector to construct a new home and provide the necessary furnishing.

The Ministry of Natural Resources had also engaged the relevant Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) to support in enhancement of the surrounding of the new home. The Ministry of Natural Resources expressed appreciation to all who supported and volunteered to bring much-needed relief to this elderly couple.
