Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken joins the family of Quindon Bacchus in prayer during a visit to their home on Monday morning

On Monday Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken met relatives of Quindon Bacchus who was shot dead by a policeman in the community of Haslington on Friday.

According to a police press statement last week, Bacchus was shot while in the process of reportedly attempting to sell a gun to an undercover policeman. The police in their statement also noted that Bacchus reportedly shot at the policeman who returned fire.

DEAD: Quindon Bacchus

However, a video that has since surfaced, shows it was the police who shot at Quindon Bacchus. Questions are now being asked about the level of force used against the young man and if same was justified.

Multiple persons have since come forward and claim that Bacchus and the policeman who shot him were known to each other and that the two had a misunderstanding over a female. While the policeman has been placed under close arrest, a probe has been launched into the policeman’s apparent use of his job and uniform to settle his score with Bacchus.

Today while visiting with the family, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken assured them that the investigation into the incident will be impartial.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken and Prison Director Nicholas Elliot engage with a protestor in Golden Grove on Monday morning

The Commissioner of Police emerged from the home of Bacchus to a group of protestors who gathered with placards. Hicken spoke with the protestors and like the family, assured them that the investigation will be carried out without any interference.

He has since called on the persons in the community and anyone else with any information that can aid in the police investigations to provide statements so they can be added to the file which will be sent for legal advice.

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility will be heading into the community to take statements and conduct its probe before the file is sent for legal advicce.
