The two men who were recently arrested with $6.5M worth of cocaine were on Friday charged and remanded to prison.

Devon Simon, 43, of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Housing Scheme, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown and Winston Hazel, 35, of Gibson Street, Tucville, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The men denied the charge which stated that on March 8, 2022, at Guyhoc Park – Tucville area, they had 5.814 kilogrammes of cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking. They were remanded to prison until March 17.

According to reports, on the day in question, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) ranks, acting on intelligence, conducted an operation in the area. During the operation, the ranks intercepted a motor car with the two men inside. A search of the vehicle then led to the discovery of five parcels of cocaine.

The men were then escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the cocaine which was weighed in their presence and amounted to 5.814 kilogrammes. The illicit drug has an estimated street value of  $6.5 million.
