Police are baffled as to the circumstances surrounding the death of a thirty-nine-year-old pasty vendor, who died during an armed robbery last night, in the Onderneeming Sandpit area, on the Essequibo Coast.  Police have since confirmed the identity of the victim, as that of Dexter Prince, aka Rasta man.

According to reports reaching the Big Smith News Watch, the robbery occurred around 20:00hrs last night, as the man was plying his trade in the community. At the time of the robbery, he was also in the company of a salesman, who was identified as an eighteen-year-old male.

The Big Smith News Watch understands that the white pasty van was not in motion, when two men, both masked and armed, pounced on the driver and salesman. A senior police source familiar with the incident, said that the gunman pointed a handgun at the salesman, who was seated at the side of the bus, and demanded that he hand over the cash. The salesman reportedly refused, and three rounds were fired.

The salesman then reportedly instructed the driver to flee the scene. In their bid to escape, the driver of the minibus lost control, and slammed into an electric pole a short distance from the scene, before losing consciousness. The bandits eventually made off with $60,000 to $70,000. The driver was eventually rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At the scene, three 9mm spent shells were recovered by police. This publication was told that Prince operates from a bakery located in Georgetown. Police investigations into the incident continue.
