Paedophilic behaviour will not be tolerated says SASOD

The Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD) has condemned any paedophilic behaviour from members of the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community

As the rights activist body fights to repeal discriminatory laws, some have raised concerns that older men will use the opportunity to prey on boys.

Founder and Managing Director of SASOD Joel Simpson told the Big Smith News Watch in a recent interview that “Our policy decision is that children should be protected from all predatory behaviour and that is no interest from the LGBTQ movement from pursuing any kind of agenda that is paedophilic in nature or that is abusive.”

He said the body supports the age of consent being 18 instead of the current 16 years old.

“The issue of paedophilia is completely separate and apart from human rights,” Simpson added.

As Guyanese joins in observing Pride Month in June, SASOD continues to advocate for better treatment for LGBTQ persons.
