38 migrants, vulnerable women earn Diploma in Cosmetology
Thirty- eight women including Venezuelan migrants and vulnerable girls will this week graduate with Diplomas in Cosmetology from Women Empowerment Cosmetology Programme sponsored by the International Organization of Migration (IOM), United Bridge Builders Mission (UBBN).
According to statement from UBBN, the women completed four months of intense fully sponsored scholarship Training. The course had four components: – Hair and hair care, Nail care and design, Skin care and massage therapy.
“With these newly acquired skills participants are expected to improve their future tremendously by opening their own small businesses, building a clientele and offering home services, or finding work in the beauty industry,” it noted.
The beneficiaries were drawn from among Venezuelan migrants, venerable girls from the community, Mahaica Girl’s home, Sophia Drop-in Center, Family center, and United Bridge Builders Mission Safe Space. The programme also served as rehabilitation for some of the clients who are in or has been conflict with the law.
They received a hairdryer, umbrella, nail startup kit, curling iron, care kit, lunch bag, apron, towels, bush and other items necessary to compliment the training tool kit.
The programme was facilitated by Cosmetologist Joy Ann Cort from Beautiful ‘U’ Salon,
It is anticipated that the women and girls will receive the necessary assistance from the Small Business Bureau and the Private Sector as they seek to embark on a new journey of self-improvement.
UBBN is an international non-governmental organisation with the aim of providing a voice for the voiceless, assisting the poor and vulnerable, and highlighting issues pertaining to gender base violence, trafficking in persons, and mental health issues.
