71-Y-O killed as wheel of overloaded tractor breaks

Woman takes her life after checking into short-time hotel

Seventy One Year old Martin Cedric Harmon a tractor and trailer operator of Orealla Village Corentyne River was killed on Thursday after the wheel of the overloaded tractor he was operating snapped, causing the front of the tractor to suspend, pinning the 71 year old in the process.

According to police information, the trailer which was being pulled by the tractor was ferrying lumber at the time of the incident.

At the time of the incident which occurred just before 15:00hrs, Martin was in the company of five other persons who were also working along with him.

The police were told that the five were transporting lumber with from Orealla Backdam to the Orealla water front when the left back wheel broke of the trailer broke off due to the overloaded weight.

As a consequence, this caused the front portion of the tractor to suspend and pinned Martin. He was quickly taken out from under the tractor in an unconscious state with injuries to parts of his body.

He was rushed to Orealla Health Center, where he was seen and examined by Doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival.
