Police detectives in Division-4A have will be using the next few hours to determine if the killing of two vagrants along Regent Street, one during the course of Sunday night into Monday morning and another other on Monday night are related and if so, who might have been the perpetrator(s)

Last evening the police received a call from an unknown person who informed them that a man was seen stooping over another and inflicting stab wounds about his body.

When the police arrived on the scene, they found a man whose only name was given as ‘Samaroo’ lying in a pool of blood.

Initial investigations revealed that the ‘Samaroo’ who is said to be vagrant and who mostly is seen along Regent Street and Robb Street was lying on the pavement in the vicinity of Household Plus when he was attacked by someone with a knife who was only clad in dark colour shorts.

BIG Smith Crime Watch also learnt that after the man finished attacking his victim, he fled the scene and use Cummings Street as his exit point.

Based on an examination of the body of the deceased by the Emergency Medical Team who also pronounced the man dead on the spot, there were injuries to his chest, feet, hand and face.

His body was removed from the scene after the police were finish with their processing of the crime scene.

The death of ‘Samaroo’ came hours after the body of another vagrant whose name was given as ‘Sponge Bobb’ was found with what appeared to be either a slash or knife wound to the neck. He too was found on the pavement at approximately 05:30 hrs on Monday morning at the corners of Light and Regent Street.‘Sponge Bobb’ found dead police investigation launched

Detectives are expected to run a number of cameras along Regent Street later today, Tuesday to see what useful footage if any, can be retrieve in order to assist them in solving these two murders which have taken place in just a matter of hours.

The Ministry of Social Protection has a facility located at West Coast Berbice where persons like ‘Sponge Bobbb’ and ‘Samaroo’ can be accommodated. However many of the persons who are taken there by the ministry would usually find themselves back on the street while expressing their desire not to stay at the facility. before that facility was established several years ago, there was also the facility in East LaPenitence which provided that service and still do but like the facility as West Coast Berbice, many who are taken there would opt to remain on the streets.
