Two residents of Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, are missing and feared drowned after they were reportedly swept away by strong currents while swimming at Unity Beach on Sunday afternoon.
The missing individuals have been identified as 20-year-old Lyodisa Waldron, known as “Loyda,” and her fiance 31-year-old Andri Francis, called “Bobby.”
According to a police report, the pair were among a group of persons at the beach when Waldron reportedly drifted further out into the Atlantic Ocean and called for help.
Francis reportedly went to assist her, but both were subsequently overtaken by strong currents and disappeared beneath the water.
An alarm was raised and immediate searches were launched at the beach and surrounding areas. However, up to the latest reports, neither Waldron nor Francis had been located.
Search efforts are continuing as relatives and residents hold out hope for answers following the tragic incident.
