A 19-year-old who allegedly tried to extort $10M from her ex-lover by telling him she will go to the police and make a false rape allegation against him, was on Thursday released on bail after changing her guilty plea to not guilty.

Princess Williams of 3127 Block 3 Providence East Bank Demerara, was on remand pending a probation report and sentencing. However, this morning when the matter was called before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, the woman, who has since retained a lawyer, pleaded not guilty.

In the circumstances, the presiding magistrate granted her bail in the sum of $100,000. She will make another court appearance on April 1, 2021, when her trial is expected to begin. The trial will be conducted by City Magistrate Rondel Weever.

Williams on February 12, 2021, had pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that between January 4, 2021, and January 7, 2021, at Georgetown, with intent to extort $10 million from Kenrick Thomas, she threatened to accuse him of attempting to rape her.

According to the prosecutor, the woman and Thomas shared a relationship for four months.  The court heard on January 4, 2021, Thomas visited the woman’s home and requested sexual intercourse to which she consented.

Shortly after, the two got into a heated argument and the relationship ended. The court heard, the woman sent an audio to Thomas claiming that he tried to rape her and demanded that he pay her $10 million to stop her from going and make a Police report.

Thomas then went and reported the matter to the police and following an investigation, Williams was arrested and charged with the offence.
