Paule Slowe reportedly tipped for 'big post' in APNU+AFC

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe appeared in court to answer several charges on Friday. The first is in relation to the alleged payment for the revision of the Guyana Police Force draft of Standing Orders.

He was also slapped with three counts of sexual assault reportedly committed on a senior policewoman. He was not required to plead to the indictable charges and was granted bail totaling $325,000. He appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Senior Superintendent Marcelene Washington, retired Assistant Police Commissioners Clinton Conway and Claude Whitaker, former Senior Superintendents George Fraser, Michael Sutton, and Mark Gilbert, Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries- Junor and Assistant Superintendent Marlon Kellman are also facing charges over the alleged collection of payment for the revision of the Standing Orders.

The first charge stated that Slowe, Conway, Whittaker,  Fraser,  Gilbert, Andries- Junor, Washington, Sutton, and Kellman between March 1, 2019, and July 7, 2020, at Police Force Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, reportedly conspired together and with other persons unknown to defraud the Guyana Police Force of $10, 056, 000 by paying Slowe, Conway, Whittaker, Fraser, and Gilbert the said monies without complying with the proper procedures, purportedly to do a review of the draft of Standing Orders which had already commence in July 2018 and concluded in March 2019 by Strategic Planning Unit of the Police Force.

It is also alleged that on three occasions in 2019- between March 26 and April 2, on March 29 and on April 2- at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary Georgetown, Slowe reportedly sexually assaulted the policewoman by rubbing her left leg and foot without consent. Slowe will make his next court appearance on November 26, 2021.

Slowe was charged in absentia in May 2021.  Slowe was out of the jurisdiction on work duties. He recently returned to Guyana and made a court appearance on Friday morning.

When he showed up at the court, SOCU ranks attempted to arrest him, but Slowe resisted on the ground that he was summoned to appear in court.

The former Policeman is being represented by attorneys-at-law Selwyn Pieters and Patrice Henry.
