Pomeroon logger dies after being pinned by tree.

DEAD: Silas Allan Francis

A twenty-seven-year-old logger died on Monday last, after being pinned by a felled tree, in the Mazaruni.

Police have identified the dead logger as Silas Allan Francis, from the indigenous community of Wakapoa, located in the Lower Pomeroon River.

The incident occurred sometime around 13:00hrs at the Kaburi Backdam, Mazaruni, Region 7. BIG Smith News Watch understands that on the said day, Francis was cutting trees when the incident occurred.

We were told that one of the cut trees became entangled with a large vine, but unexpectedly loosened and fell on the twenty-seven-year-old, during heavy winds.

Francis was pinned on the ground for a short while, before becoming motionless. The body was then taken to the Bartica Town’s Regional Public Hospital where, where it was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

Police indicated that an investigation is in progress.
