Support systems to kick in for family of killed GDF rank-Army

The Guyana Defence Force has confirmed that one of it’s Private, Tevon Daymon died while receiving medical attention at the Diamond Hospital after he was injured in an isolated shooting incident.

“The rank who hails from the 21 Artillery Company died following his involvement in an unfortunate incident with another rank during their performance of security duties earlier this morning” A statement from the Army stated on Monday.

According to the release, at about 04:51 hours, another rank opened fire on Private Daymon after which he was rushed to the hospital.

In his statement, the Army noted that the incident is an isolated one and does not reflect the overall discipline and professionalism of the organization. As such, the force has engaged the assistance of the police who will be working in collaboration with military authorities.

It was noted that the joint effort stands as a commitment to transparency, accountability, and a comprehensive examination of the incident.

The GDF plans to ensure that all necessary support measures for the family of the deceased in kicked immediately even as the Chief of Staff extends condolences to the family on behalf of the other ranks and officers of the GDF.
