DJ Magnum among survivors in river mishap, two still missing

Two persons including a Bartica businessman are feared drowned after a boat mishap in the EssequiboRiver just around 18:45hrs on Saturday evening.

Still unaccounted for are 31 Year old Alvin Leitch called ‘Spanish Boss’ of Charlestown, Georgetown and 43 Year old Randy Adams called ‘Addi’, a businessman of 1093 Mongrippa Bartica.

A search part is currently searching for the two.

BIG Smith News Watch was informed that the boat which carries the name ‘Carlos’ left Parika for Bartica and while in the vicinity of Calf Island, Essequibo, the captain was attempting to navigate around a damaged Beacon but the boat collided with same causing the boat to puncture.

The vessel which began taking in water quickly sank as the captain was attempting to sail to the river bank.

At the time of the incident, there were ten passengers onboard including popular Disc Jockey Darrel Romeo called “Magnum”.

He along with eight other passengers managed to swim to the river bank until they were rescued.

The police have since taken the captain Jermaine Blackman of Bartica into custody as well as his 18 year old bowman Lamuel Allen.

Up to press time, there was no confirmation on if all passengers in the boat at the time were wearing life jackets.

The survivors were taken to the Bartica Hospital where they were examined by doctors on duty.

The search for the missing two continues even as investigators continue their investigations.
