Fifty-six-year-old Wesley Bazil is now nursing four self-inflicted cuts to his neck under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Yesterday afternoon, the man was in the High Court when the jury returned a guilty verdict against him in a rape matter for which he was on trial.

However, as he was about to leave the courtroom he began to behave in an aggressive manner and pulled out a razor blade from his pants pocket and dealt himself four cuts to his neck (2 on each side below the jaw). An ambulance was summoned, and Emergency Medical Technicians attached to the Central Fire Station responded where the victim was seen and examined.

He was picked up in a conscious state and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is presently receiving further medical attention. His condition is listed as serious but stable.

Further investigations are ongoing.
