(Dead: Adrean Andries)

Rawle Stanton, 48, of 303 One Mile Wismar, Linden was on Wednesday slapped with charges of causing death by dangerous driving and unlicenced driver when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

It is alleged that on September 12, 2021, at  One Mile Public Road Linden, he drove motor lorry GWW 9089 owned by the Mayor and Town Council (M&TC) Linden, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of a 23-year-old motorcyclist, Adrean Andries.

It is also alleged that on the same day and at the same location, Stanton drove motor lorry GWW 9089 when he was not the holder of a driver’s licence.  The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Stanton was released on $400,000 on causing death by dangerous driving charge and $20,000 bail on the charge which alleged that he was unlicenced driver. As a condition of bail, Stanton was instructed by the Chief Magistrate to report to the One Mile Police Station every Monday until his trial is completed.

He was represented by lawyer Gordon Gilhuys.

The matter was adjourned to October 6, 2021.

The Police in a release stated that the driver of the motor lorry was proceeding west on the northern side of One Mile Public Road when he stopped to pick up garbage, after which he drove off and attempted to turn south across the road where he ended up into the path of the motorcycle.

The front of the motorcycle collided to the right side front of the motor lorry, causing the motorcyclist to fall into a drain on the northern side of the road where he received head injuries.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A breath alcohol test was conducted on the driver but no trace of alcohol was found.
