Downes takes golf league lead after Lusignan victory
Oliver Downes
Oliver Downes moved to the top of the National Top Flight Golf League’s Tour Three standings after winning the second round at Lusignan on September 27.
The newcomer returned a net 71, helped by a net 32 over the back nine, to collect 10 points. That left him ahead of Chet Bowling and Mike Mangal, both on eight, with Videsh Persaud next on five.
Mangal secured second place on the day after a tiebreaker with George Bulkan, who also finished on net 72. Bulkan took third, having earlier lost the front-nine award to Joseph Szeplaki.
Another tiebreaker separated Patrick Prashad and Ian Gouveia after both carded net 74. Prashad’s back-nine net 35 earned him fourth place.
Promotech and Genuine Auto Spares and Tools sponsored the round. League competition continues on October 4.
