A fifty-four years old coconut vendor was on Friday morning charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

This was committed on a seventy-nine-year-old woman.

The accused, Colling Joseph, was arraigned before Magistrate Esther Sam, in the Suddie Magistrates Court on the Essequibo Coast.

The charge read that on Thursday, February 18th 2021, the accused allegedly assaulted the complainant at the Charity Water front, on the Essequibo Coast, as to cause her actual bodily harm.

The accused, who was represented lawyer Onasis Grandville, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution offered one objection to bail, citing that the defendant and the Virtual Complainant both live at the Charity back street within close proximity to each other.

The prosecution said that there is a possibility that the accused might interfere with victim.

The accused’s attorney quickly debunked the prosecution’s argument, noting that no evidence has been presented to the court, which suggests that any interference has taken place since the date of the alleged incident, nor intentions for the accused to interfere with the accused.

Bailed was subsequently granted in the sum of $10,000.

The magistrate sternly warned the accused, that any verified complains that the witness is being disturbed, will result in his (the accused), movements being restricted.
