The letter reportedly sent by the Canadian Mint to local authorities

El Dorado Trading is denying that its gold is contaminated by illegal gold suspected to be imported from neighbouring Venezuela.

The company’s statement came after a letter from the Royal Canadian Mint to the Guyana Gold Board claims that it is looking into a complaint brought by the London Bullion Mark Association, LBMA, has found its way into the public domain.

The letter which is addressed to Ms Eondrene Thompson, General Manager of the Guyana Gold Board reads that the LBMA “contacted the Mint to advise that a grievance had been filed via the Minerals Grievance Platform (MGP), connecting El Dorado to illegally sourced Venezuelan gold.”

The letter advised the GGB that the Mint is “suspending any material from El Dorado” coming into the Mint’s supply chain effective “immediately” until further notice.”

El Dorado Trading in its statement said that prior to the letter, it had engaged Binder Dijker Otte,  an auditor that is approved and accepted by the LBMA. This auditor the company said is to “audit our supply chain and compliance regime dating back to year 2018.”

The company said that it has authorized BDO to share with its international business associates “all information necessary in keeping with the Precious Metals Industry best practices supervised by the LBMA.” as it said that these reports are available to the competent authorities for perusal.

El Dorado Trading is insisting that its operations meet the highest of verifiable standards in what is one of the most regulated sectors in Guyana as it said that it has accommodated “Supervisory Authority” from the GGB  to conduct  site visits to all of its locations.
