Positive Coronavirus patient still on the run in Berbice

The Ministry of Health continues to ask members of the public especially those in Berbice to make urgent contact with its coronavirus hotline on 667-4449 and 682-3055 if they spot Jagdeo Mohan.

Mohan of 7 and 8 No. 74 Village Corentyne Berbice tested positive for coronavirus recently and was required to self-isolate for fourteen days but is nowhere to be found.

In-fact, Mohan reportedly provided the incorrect information regarding his address when he returned to Guyana from the United States.

Jagdeo Mohan recently arrived in Guyana from the United States via a chartered flight and was tested for the virus and allowed to go home – as part of the requirements to be home quarantined for 14 days until the result is back.

It so happened that the result returned positive and efforts were made to locate the man for him to be placed in isolation. That attempt proved futile, however, since it is believed that the man produced false contact information to the health officials.

Divisional Commander, Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus, said ranks are on the ground trying to locate the man but it had been quite a task, since the only information they have about him is his name and an ill-defined address.

“We are trying our best; it is a common thing for persons to know individuals who arrived from the United States, so we are continuing to ask around and hope that we have directions as to where this man is staying.” Divisional Commander Brutus noted.

A number of police officers were trained by medical staffers on how they should handle COVID-19 patients, and how to protect themselves if they are to be in contact with such patients.

Hazmat suits, face shields, sanitizers and a number of other protective gear were given to the officers as they continue to do their job while working during a pandemic.

Persons in East Berbice-Corentyne are advised to take precautions and at all times wear a face mask when out in the public, avoid social gatherings, and adhere to the social distancing rule of being six feet apart.
