Fifty Three-year-old Chandika Persaud a vendor of Lot 96 West Indian Housing Scheme Bartica, Essequibo River fell to his death on Thursday while under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly fell down a fleet of stairs.

Police information on the incident suggests that between 07 and 09 hours on the day in question, the man was last seen alive around 07hrs Thursday sitting on his veranda when he invited a friend to take a drink with him but the friend who did not immediately went for the drink as he had to go get some work done.

However, upon returning to take the drink with Persaud, the friend did not see Persaud and began calling out for him but got no response so he ventured into the yard.

It was there that he saw Persaud lying at the bottom of the stairs motionless and appeared to be dead. An alarm was raised and the matter subsequently reported to the police. When the cops arrived, the examined the body and discovered that abrasions were seen on the left shoulder, right elbow, upper right shoulder and swelling on the forehead.

The man was then escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival. The body was then escorted to the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
