A security Guard who is attached to the United States Embassy and her two sons have been displaced as a result of a late afternoon fire in Vryheid’s-Lust when the apartment in which they lived was gutted.

Speaking with BIG Smith News Watch at the location on Saturday, Beverly Semple was in a vehicle heading home when she received a call that her apartment was on fire.

Beverly and several other families share a multi-occupancy building which is divided into several housing apartments at South Vryheid’s-Lust.

“I was coming up in a bus and my friends they called me and told me that my house was on fire so when I came I saw everyone was assisting, neighbors and everybody else came, broke the window and tried to see what they can save but they said the smoke was too much so they were unable to save anything.” The woman who is now pondering her next moves related to BIG Smith News Watch.

From impressions in the building and based on what the woman and those who responded; the fire started in her bedroom. In there she has a television, this publication was told by the woman that the fire may have started from the point on the wall but maintained that there was nothing plugged in there.

During our visit on Saturday to the scene, items that were scorched were being removed from the apartment. Due to the efforts of the Fire Service to contain the fire, there was also extensive water damage to the items of at least one family who lives in an upper apartment.
