The body of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran was recovered from a canal at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, early Tuesday morning, ending days of searching for the missing child.

The child’s body was reportedly discovered around 1:00 a.m. in the Sea Dam Canal at Water Street, Block D, after information allegedly provided by his father, Bharrat Jaikarran, led investigators to the location.

Region Five Commander, Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite, confirmed that information gathered during the investigation led police to the canal.

The father has reportedly admitted to killing the child, although investigators have not yet released official details surrounding the circumstances of Orlando’s death.

Orlando was reported missing on October 14, prompting searches throughout the Bath community and surrounding areas.

His body was reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition when it was recovered and was subsequently taken to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Investigations into the child’s death are ongoing.
