An Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara shopkeeper has been sentenced to three years and five months’ imprisonment after being convicted of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Ezekiel Lewis, known as “Bell,” 26, of Lot 12 Ann’s Grove, was found guilty on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following a trial before the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

Lewis was arrested on October 8, 2025, and charged two days later under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

He made his first court appearance on October 10, 2025, before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
