Teachers sent on leave for abusing special needs students

Two teachers attached to the David Rose Special Education Needs School are under investigation following disturbing allegations of abuse involving young students, after a video of the incident surfaced on social media and sparked widespread public outrage.

The CCTV footage, which has since gone viral, reportedly shows multiple acts of physical aggression directed at children believed to be around six years old.

The students involved are said to be autistic and non-verbal.

In one portion of the video, a teacher is seen forcefully dragging a child’s chair into position. In another, a separate teacher is allegedly seen striking a young boy with a belt, before appearing to use another object to hit a child behind the head.

The children are seen visibly distressed in the footage, crying out during the incident.

Allegations have also circulated claiming that such treatment may not be isolated, but a repeated occurrence at the facility. These claims have not been independently verified.

The David Rose Special Education Needs School caters to children with varying developmental and learning needs, making the allegations particularly concerning given the vulnerability of its student population.

Following the emergence of the video, the Ministry of Education confirmed that both teachers have been sent on administrative leave pending a full investigation into the matter.
