6.8 lbs cannabis found in car engine at Mahaica

Approximately 6.8 pounds of suspected cannabis was discovered concealed in the engine compartment of a car during a stop-and-search police operation along Helena Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, on Thursday afternoon.
The discovery was made between 16:10 hrs and 16:45 hrs after a black Toyota Fielder wagon with one male occupant was stopped and searched. During the search, six bulky transparent plastic parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found hidden in the engine area of the vehicle.
The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man from No. 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, was taken into custody following the discovery.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in the man’s presence and amounted to 6.80 pounds before being lodged as evidence.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
