Nokta, McAllister & Ramsaroop being considered for Pres. Ali's Cabinet

September 9, 2025

Environmentalist Shyam Nokta, Attorney at Law Thandi McAllister, and Entrepreneur Peter Ramsaroop are among the shortlisted candidates being considered for positions in the Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali Cabinet, which is expected to be announced later this week.

With cards being played close to the chest and no official word coming from Main Street or Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, BIG Smith News Watch has been told that President Irfaan Ali is likely to have all his cabinet members in place by Friday.

Shyam Nokta is an environmentalist and the son of the longstanding PPP stalwart and former Government Minister, Harripersaud Nokta. Mc Allister is an Attorney at Law by profession and is an expert in maritime law. Peter Ramsaroop was once a member of the People’s National Congress Reform. Over the last five years, he has been Guyana’s lead focal point on investment as head of the Guyana Office for Investment, Go-Invest.

During his inauguration speech on Sunday, September 07, 2025, President Ali committed to making a bold cabinet shake-up to drive development.

Sources who may be familiar with the cabinet reconfiguration said that while the names of some returning members were mentioned, those who will be outrightly asked to serve in other areas outside of the cabinet are not fully known.

On Monday, President Irfaan Ali swore in his running mate, Brigadier Mark Phillips, for a second term as Prime Minister of Guyana and Bharrat Jagdeo for a second term as the country’s Vice President.
