“Otisha” Granted Bail for Abusive, Threatening Language

Otis Pearson, a well-known member of the LGBTQ+ community who is popularly referred to as “Otisha,” was on Friday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts on two charges stemming from an escalating personal dispute involving a former friend and her child.

The 47-year-old Kitty resident of Lot 17 Station Street, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty to answer to charges of abusive language and threatening language.

He pleaded guilty to the abusive language charge, but denied the allegation of threatening his accuser, Anita Ramdeo, entering a not guilty plea on that count.

The incident in question reportedly occurred on July 24 in the Kitty area.

However, Ramdeo was notably absent from court when the matter was called.

After confirming that she was also charged, abusive language, Magistrate McGusty issued a warrant for her arrest, citing her failure to appear before to court.

When given an opportunity to address the court, Pearson was candid about the long-standing rift between himself and the complainant.

He explained that they had once shared a close friendship, but tensions began to rise after he began a romantic relationship with Ramdeo’s partner.

“We were sharing the same man”, he said. According to Pearson, this led to bitter animosity between the two, with frequent verbal confrontations whenever they crossed paths.

“There’s always been back and forth between us,” Pearson told the court. “She pass and throw hints, and I does throw back.”

“Madam, I will be very honest I did curse her back because us gay person, if you curse us we will curse you back. She got mad because I had a relationship with her man… she curse me and tell me my BT hole was big and I curse her back “.

Pearson further claimed that in addition to the personal fallout over the affair, he had become increasingly concerned about Ramdeo’s treatment of her young daughter.

He alleged that the woman regularly kept the school-aged child at home to care for a younger sibling, effectively denying her access to formal education.

According to him, he had made multiple reports to the police and the Child Protection Agency over the course of several months.

His efforts resulted in the child being removed from the home at one point, though she was later returned since no criminal offense was committed by the child.

According to the prosecution on the day of the incident, Pearson visited the home with the intention to see the child.

However, it is alleged that Ramdeo told the child not “to speak to anyone”. This, he said, triggered an argument between the two, during which Pearson began using profane and offensive language, including expletives such as “f” and “s” words.

Pearson acknowledging his wrongdoing with regard to the abusive language, but maintained that he never issued any threats toward Ramdeo and believed she was intentionally avoiding court.

“She ain’t come because she hiding,” Pearson told the court.

The prosecution raised no objections to bail, and Magistrate McGusty granted Pearson bail in the sum of $10,000 on the threatening language charge.

Additionally, he was ordered to sign a peace bond to maintain good behavior and avoid further conflict with the complainant.

The matter has been adjourned until August 22, for continuation.
