11-Y-O Boy Kills Friend, 13

October 30 2024 – Police are investigating the tragic death of 13-year-old Kareem Durant, a student at Carmel Secondary School, who was allegedly murdered by an 11-year-old boy in Cummings Park, E Field Sophia, on October 29 at approximately 7:10 p.m.
According to initial investigations, Durant and the 11-year-old suspect were known to each other as friends who often played together in the neighborhood. The incident began when the suspect was seated on a pile of PVC pipes near his home, and Durant reportedly pushed him off the pipes, causing him to fall.
The suspect then informed his older brother of the incident, who subsequently confronted Durant to discuss the matter. The encounter escalated, and Durant left, returning shortly after with another male, reportedly armed with scissors. Durant allegedly attacked the suspect’s older brother, inflicting a stab wound to his lower left back.
In response, the 11-year-old suspect reportedly drew a knife from his waistband and stabbed Durant in the left side of his chest. Durant attempted to flee but collapsed near his home. His older brother, Shawn Fletchman, rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police processed the scene, recovering a brown-handled knife from a nearby trench, believed to be the weapon used, along with the scissors found near where Durant collapsed. Both items were secured as evidence.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and escorted to the Turkeyen Police Station with his father. Durantβs body is currently at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
