‘Kill Quick’ found guilty of killing ‘Sweetie man’

A man has been found guilty of manslaughter by a jury, following charges related to the death of 54-year-old Linden vendor Dwane Williams.

Williams was discovered deceased behind a shack in the mining town.

The accused, thirty-four-year-old Larry Da Silva, known as ‘Kill Quick’ of Wismar Housing
Scheme, Linden, stood trial before Demerara High Court Judge Sandil Kissoon for the murder of Williams.

However, after deliberations last week, the twelve jurors concluded that Da Silva was guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

His sentencing hearing has been postponed until May 20, and he is presently on remand. Da Silva was represented by Attorney-at-Law Ronald Bostwick, while State Counsel Caressa Henry represented the prosecution.

Williams, also known as ‘Levi’ and ‘Sweetie Man’, sold various confectionaries for a living.

Reports indicate that Williams was found dead at his residence in Wismar Housing Scheme on November 27, 2020. He was last seen alive the day prior.

His nephew discovered him lying behind a shack, observing a severe wound to the throat and another to his right wrist. A knife was found close to his body.

Police investigations revealed that Williams, who lived alone, was killed sometime between 21:00h on November 26, 2020, and 05:45h on November 27, 2020.

Prior to his death, Williams visited his 88-year-old mother at her residence in One Mile Wismar, which she shares with the nephew. He then left, informing them he was returning home to cook.

On November 27, 2020, residents informed the nephew that Williams was seen lying motionless behind a shack. He succumbed to his injuries, which included multiple incised wounds.
