Sub-regional Dialogue on Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans Commences

The Sub-regional Dialogue on National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and Workshop on Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework (CBF) for Caribbean Countries commenced today with an opening ceremony held in Georgetown.
The event, aimed at implementing the convention on biodiversity, was inaugurated with a keynote address delivered by Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat.
Minister Bharrat emphasized the significance of biodiversity and ecosystem services, underlining the critical role they play in sustaining life on earth.
In his address, Minister Bharrat highlighted the shared challenges faced by Caribbean countries in preserving biodiversity, including climate change, extreme weather events, and illegal exploitation of natural resources.
He stressed the importance of collective action and regional collaboration to address these pressing issues effectively.
The dialogue also underscored the necessity of integrating biodiversity conservation into national and regional development plans, as well as budgeting and reporting systems.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Biodiversity Strategy (CBS) was highlighted as a vital framework for guiding CARICOM members in aligning with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from various Caribbean nations, biodiversity experts, and stakeholders committed to advancing biodiversity conservation efforts in the region.
The dialogue and workshop sessions will continue over the coming days, fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and developing strategies to safeguard the rich biodiversity of the Caribbean.
