Ann’s Grove man on trial for ex-soldier’s murder

Rawle Munroe, the man who is accused of fatally stabbing ex-soldier Edward Beveney during a confrontation over a bicycle on Independence Day of 2018, is currently on trial for the capital offence of murder before Justice Sandil Kissoon and a jury. 

His trial started on Thursday morning at the Demerara High Court.

Munroe, 40, formerly of Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) has pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on May 26, 2018, at Beterverwagting, ECD, he murdered Edward Beveny, a former soldier.

Munroe’s Attorney-at-Law is Teriq Mohammed while State Counsel Cecilia Corbin is leading the case for the prosecution. 

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination performed on Beveny had revealed that he died as a result of perforation of the lungs due to multiple stab wounds.

Also called ‘Akim’ and ‘Buddha’, 23-year-old Beveney, a miner of Lot 115 Ogle Street, Triumph, ECD was stabbed several times about his body including his chest and left eye during a confrontation over a bicycle.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
